the moose place

Well goodness, hello Houston! Allison at home is lazy lazy so I haven't been doing much of the looking cute thing this week. But tonight we went to dinner and the symphony, which is always exciting...but I took this picture in our court yard and there are SO MANY THINGS wrong with this outfit that I want to point out, but probably shouldnt.

But for next time:
1. Dont mix browns
2. Careful not to wear a volumous top and a volumous bottom.
3. Fix that hem!

One thing I DO like about this is the belt added to this shirt. I think it makes the shirt look more pulled together and less frumpy, which I always appreciate.

A week from Monday=Israel, 2 weeks from Tuesday=birthday, 3 weeks from Sunday=big apple!

you're dancin real slow

I was kind of disappointed with this outfit. It didnt work out as well as I wanted to. First off, it was NOT sunny today, so it wasnt entirely appropriate for the day and I had to wear a sweater with it. Next time Im going to wear a different belt or somehow fix this one.

But cool thing about this outfit: I bought this long, frumpy skirt at Orange Peel in Jackson, pulled it up to my chest to make it a dress! I belted it to give it a better structure. I never really like sleeveless dresses or tops, but this is super simple, easy and comfortable. This one stays up really well too! Im planning on investing in some more for sure.

Also, my mom may not be my temporary photographer for long...

start spreadin the news

So some things about this outfit:
1. The color combination...do I look like Christmas? I thought this American Apparel leotard had enough teal in the green to go with the red. When I originally tried this skirt on in Anthropologie, I paired it with a white blouse. I only bought it becaue it was on sale, I already had a white blouse and I had the full intention to return it. But when I tried it on with this leotard, I fell in love with it. The boldness of the color is awesome.

2. I found these sunglasses. If you lost them, or if I unintentionally stole them, I'm sorry. They had been sitting in the Tri-Delta bathroom for weeks and I wanted them so bad! But really,I like them a lot. I've never had brown sunglasses which is ridiculous because I own A TON of brown. I also really like he shape of them.

So far, I LOVE SUMMER. This has been a great week and today was a great way to end it. I feel like this outfit was the perfect way to celebrate all the wonderfulness that was this week! First of all, I spent a lot of much needed time with my lovely friends. Second, my grades were so much better than I expected, which was a HUGE relief as I had really been stressing about my semester GPA.

And the THIRD exciting thing that happened this week was: I GOT AN INTERNSHIP IN NEW YORK CITY! I start one month from today. I am desperately looking for places to live and things to do and people to meet. I can't wait! I am nervous and excited!

This outfit was so fitting for the confidence I felt today. After moving out of my dorm room all morning, I wanted to clean up for my afternoon activities! I went to a professor's house for lunch with some of the other Religious Studies ladies. Then I went straight to another professor's house for tea and cookies and a long discussion of life in New York. She helped me find some housing options and gave me a lot of tips. I then had a lovely get together with my friends to exchange birthday gifts. With the exception of one, all of our birthdays are in the summer and it is too much to get a gift for everyone, so we had a nice Secret Santa for birthdays.

It was really a great day and a great week. I'm going home tomorrow for two weeks. Then its off to Israel and then I move to the city!

nothing but blue skies

The ethic print skirt returns! I wasnt too sure this would translate to summer, and I'm still not sure it does BUT I am wearing it with the very summery American Apparel leotard. I had a mini leotard phase a few summers ago and they go with all sorts of skirts.

Lizzie and I had lunch in Fondren today and went to Orange Peel. I got a few things, I cant wait to show off my summer clothes!

awards day

I legitimately threw this outfit together. I started the day in a quilted black sleeveless dress that I LOVE but I felt so down and I really wanted a springy, artsy, more casual outfit for academic awards day. This is one of my favorite tops that I've bought so far this year and I desperately need to wear it more.

Also, I've been shopping. And soon I will be waking up to a clean, organized room and a walk in closet, so better summer outfits are sure to come :)

So it ends...

Its been a very busy end of the school year and unfortunately I have only two outfit posts to offer you from the last two weeks of school. I've been living in the library so my uniform has been Nike shorts, a Tri Delta Tshirt, my beloved chacos, and my bright pink Jon Hart backpack.

First, I love my navy shorts. Ive had them since high school, but there are some things I cant give up on. This is the first time I've tried this boyfriend oxford with bottoms other than skinny jeans, and this is so much more flattering. The necklace adds a lot of glam to it. And the little pin Im wearing is the "seniors only" pin we received at Eve of the Seventh Season. We're supposed to wear it once a month next year. Hmm.

the moon licks the sky with a strawberry tongue

How many items am I wearing from Anthropologie? 3. Sometimes I get dressed in a hurry in an outfit I'v worn before and dont have to put much thought into and then halfway through the day, I think of a different shirt I could have worn with that other belt and it would have looked cute and different than the regular outfit. That happened today. So now Im really excited to pair this skirt with a different shirt and belt!

nothing else will do, ive gotta have you

I have been wanting to wear this necklace from Anthropologie for ever! I bought it in February and hadnt really found anything to wear it with yet, but this was perfect. All that chunky jewelry I've been craving? Finally have some to wear!
Also, I have to say that if I couldnt wear sundresses all the time, I would want to wear high waisted skirts. This was pretty much my outfit to my internship every day last summer. Both the tank top and skirt are from Wish on Montrose. I can't wait to do some summer shopping again in Houston. It feels so good to be outside again! :)

time is how you spend your love

All I want to do is wear sundresses. All the time. This only becomes a problem when there is no sun! I took a little trip to the New Orleans Museum of Art's sculpture garden. It is beautiful. They have great works and I a mildly obessed with it. I want to go back when its sunny!! This is the sundress I was talkig about earlier that I bought in the nightgown section of Anthropologie. Cant really tell, can you? It got chilly with all the clouds, so I threw my coral sweater on later.
My goal for future sundress accessorizing: shoes other than these sandals, large chunky jewelry, maybe some light colored tights and different sweaters for the cloudy days? Cant wait for summer!

Here are some more pictures from the day:
One of Louise Bourgeois's spiders! Very cool, although I would love to see one as public art in a different setting.

Claes Oldenburg's Safety Pin. It is my life goal to see his Spoon Bridge with Cherry in Minneanapolis.

petals.

I'm so glad I finally got to wear this shirt. It was a bit of an "out of the comfort zone" purchase. I like the ruffles on the front but I wasnt sure how I felt about them covering the sleeves. I also really like this color combination with the navy.
Today wasnt wonderful, but I'm very much looking forward to the weekend.

I also decided to take a fun picture, LOOK at my hair:

hey soul sister

Thank God it is Friday.
I had full intentions to wear a sundress today. I have this dress I bought at Anthropologie last year (its actually a nightgown, but its too long and too cute to wear that way) that I've never worn and the weather has been so pretty and I wanted to wear it. But it was cloudy when I looked out my window his morning and I was surprised how cold it was when I got outside. I thought I was going to be hot with this sweater!

Theres not much to this outfit, but I really like the contrast of the light blue and coral. This sweater has had a lot of usage over the years and I appreciate that it goes with just about anything while still not quite being a neutral. Its just enough to stand out. I feel like everyone in the world now owns one of these dresses. But I think mines a little different because the bottom skirt part is denim. I love the shape of these dresses...very flattering for my body type.

Do you like the appearance of Big Red in this picture? Chris decided to take some artistic liberty and capture his car in this. We were waiting on some people, so I figured it would be a good time to hop out and take a picture for the day.

Did I mention Im happy its the weekend?

Glorious Spring!

Hey Spring! I'm so happy to see you! This is the first week back from Spring Break and the weather has been absolutely gorgeous (minus the small blip on Sunday when it snowed all day.) So, in honor of the nice weather today I did a few things. First, I wore shorts and sandals. Yay!

Chris and I took the trolley to Fondren. I LOVE Fondren. We had lunch at the Crazy Cat...it's new, small and was surprisingly good. We walked to the Orange Peel (quite possibly one of the coolest vintage stores ever). I didnt buy anyhing this time, but I'm definitely feeling digging day in my future. We went to Campbell's Bakery and I got THE best sugar cookie in the world and then we got a gift for our professor who is having our class over to her house this weekend. I took this picture in front of a home furnishings store. Did I mention I love Fondren?

I'm wearing the Banana Republic shirt and vest...again. But the shorts and sandals make it feel different, I think. I felt like I needed a fedora or something, but I couldnt pull that off. Today was also the first day in awhile that I wore my Africa bracelets (if you can see them...)

Summer is coming! :)

Coral.

I apologize for my two wee hiatus. I've been sick and so busy! I'll try to start posting more, but next week is spring break ad I'm going to the mountains. So, I'm wearing a lot of coral. I feel like I've been belting things a lot lately, but I thught it was necessary to break up the color a little bit.

"You look like an 18th century peasant"

Could I be any more awkward about taking pictures?!
So, a few quick things about this outfit. First, the dress is new. Its a summer dress that I couldnt wait to wear! I've been playing with it all week...different shirts, tights, boots, sweaters flats etc. I finally decided on this I didnt want to be too matchy matchy with the hunter green tights and the hunter green sweater, but I thought that because it was a shrug and my boots covered most of the tights, the other colors broke it up enough that it went okay.

Can I just say how much I love the color combination of the dark brown and green tights? I wish the ligh brown of my dress hadnt overshadowed it as much!
So ready for the weekend! Its supposed to rain a lot next week, so I'm VERY excited to wear all my new rain gear!

simple things.

I love Wednesdays. Today was sunny, but still windy and cold. I brought this sweater back from home this weekend. (It's from Anthropologie...) I've had it for awhile and wanted to wear it last week, but I couldn't find it! I had to search my closet at home for it. It is quite possibly the softest thing I own. I think the color brings out my eyes, but my favorite part is the detailing on the neckline.

Also, I'm playing a game of "how many days in a row can I wear these shoes?"
So let me tell you about them. Almost exactly four years ago, my family and I went to visit my sister while she was studying abroad in Perugia, Italy (pre-Foxy Knoxy). We went into a shoe store and I immediately wanted these brown Italian leather shoes. About a year after I bought them, the strap across the front of the shoe broke and the nails started to poke through to my foot on the heel. I wasnt ready to let them go so I went to a local shoemaker to have them fixed and I've been wearing them ever since! Thats love.

I think this was a good outfit for today. So far all I've done is class, kava, JFP crossword puzzle with Chris, visited with Katie and other non productive things (story of my life). Hopefully this sweater will keep me warm for my long night in the library...oh joy.

tuesday, wednesday break my heart

I am SO READY for spring. It was absolutely disgusting outside today, hence the inside picture. I had been doing so well on taking good pictures too! My wonderful photographer Chris and I brainstormed about some cool locations on campus to take pictures, so get excited to see where I'll pop up next!

Anyway, This shirt is so comfy and forgiving and it might not look like it, but the vest adds a lot of warmth. They're both from Banana Republic and two of my favorite purchases this year. I usually wear it without the belt, but sometimes that feels a little sloppy. So I decided to try belting it today, but Im not really sure how I feel about it.

What I DID feel good about today is one of my friends looked at me and all she said was “BLOG ABOUT THAT OUTFIT!”

So, that was good :)

Other than that, February had been such a blah month. I am looking forward to warm weather clothes and sitting outside in he sun. Cant wait.

Monday, February 22, 2010

monday morning.

This is one of my lamer, don't really have to think about it outfits. I had to get up early early this morning to get a flight back to Jackson before class at 10 and basically it was comfortable, easy, and security friendly. Its all from Anthropologie, but you probably already guessed that.

My mom and I did some shopping in Houston this weekend and I did pretty well. I've already been thinking up all the wonderful future outfits in my head. Can't wait to show you!

The Dog Dress

THE dog dress has finally made its appearance on Edgycation! I've worn this dress on three different occasions, styled a little differently each time and I finally got around to taking a picture today. My sister bought the CUTEST dress at Anthro in January and it had scottie dogs all over it. It looked really good on her, and when I found this dress on Modcloth, I couldn't resist. I put it with boots and tights today for class, but a couple weekends ago I wore it to a fundraiser event with heels. It can be a little too short for my comfort at times, but I've found that I love wearing short dresses because it makes my legs look so long.

While I love this dress, I'm a little disappointed in my styling efforts. I like the tights and boots on the bottom, but I feel like I'm lacking substance on the top. I am bad at accessorizing and I dont have many sweaters or anything for layering in my closet. Im going home this weekend and I'm hoping I can talk my mom into doing a littl vintage shopping. I have so many wonderfu basics in my closet, now I just need to start adding edgier pieces!

whimsy

This is another one of my comfy outfits and definitely one of my favorite dresses. It was an Anthropologie sale item, and it was the first thing I bought to go with these boots. Tights for added insulation, of course and this sweater isnt perfect, but it does its job. The picture had to be on the go since I was running late, but at least its not in a dorm room this time...progress!

Comfy always wins.

I wear this dress as often as possible for one reason: COTTON. It's warm, it's comfy, it's soft...the list goes on and on. It covers most of my body. I love it, perfect for cold winter weather. The tights and boots were perfect for it and I added a headband (with feathers!) for an edgy touch. A perfect Monday outfit.

Dress: Gap
Tights: Target
Headband: Anthropologie
Boots: Steve Madden(I bought them on Amazon!)

The Striped Shirt

It is officially my goal to wear this t-shirt as many different ways as possible. I normally don't like to wear things with horizontal stripes as they usually make me look larger than I am, but from the moment I tried this shirt on I've been determined to make it work. I am obsessed with prints right now and I love the flowered print at the neckline. I've been wanting to pair this with a necklace for quite some time, but I don't want to compete with the pretty print!

Shirt: Anthropologie
Sweater: Anthropologie

Pin Attire

I love pin attire Thursdays because I love an excuse to wear a dress. I've had this in my closet for awhile now. Its not a great picture, as usual, and I've had a lot of trouble remembering to document my edgy endeavors. While this isnt particulaly edgy or out of the ordinary for me, I think the scarf spiced it up a bit. I so badly wish this dress was two seperate pieces, I have so many skirts I want to wear a brown fitted shirt with!

Dress and Scarf: Francesca's Collection
Riding Boots: Ralph Lauren (Macy's)

Wine and Cheese

This as the only picture I could find that showed almost my whole outfit from last night. I've had this picked out for awhile now and I've been dying to wear it. I'm wearing my black turtleneck(which severely needs to be replaced), a new, high waisted skirt from Anthropologie (which,I will say I got on sale and is my first purchase of an ethnic print which most of you know I've been lovin). I added the yellow necklace (also from Anthropologie, what can I say? addicted) for some color in my face. What you can't see is my diagonal diamond textured tights and my black booties.

When I first picked out the skirt, my mom and my sister didn't like it but I think adding a subtle top let the colors in the skirt do their own thing. And I thought the necklace matched nicely. So far, this is probably one of my favorite outfits of all time. Seriously.

Hey February!

I have again decided to revamp edgycation in an attempt to make myself update more. I am going to be taking on a format similar to What I Wore. I am going to be posting pictures of my edgy endeavors in attempt to (maybe) track my progress and edgycate the rest of you. Enjoy!

As a lot of you may know, I really covet the foreheadband and felt like I couldn't pull it off. But with the help of my newly flat hair, I decided to give it a try, and I think it worked! I am also wearing those Steve Madden booties for the first time and I LOVE LOVE them. They'e the perfect tiny little height. I really liked the way the grey of the books complemented the blue tones in my tights, which brought out a lot of the blue in the dress. Works!

Edgy...cation?

I use the word edgy a lot. A large majority of the time I use it in reference to something someone else is wearing and I generally covet said outfit. So, in an attempt to be a little edgier and perhaps follow in the footsteps of my fashion icons (aka every fashion blogger ever because they have way cooler style than I do), I've decided to try something new.

Before, Edgycation has been a lot about me saying "thats an edgy trend" in an attempt to "edgycate" the rest of you. I've decided this is a bad approach and the best way to blog is to edgycate myself. So here it is, I am officially declaring myeslf a (wanna-be) fashion blogger. Bear with me as I take awkward pictures of myself in my every day clothing. I guarantee I will not post a daily outfit as I expect to be in tshirt and jeans often as the semester progresses.
